Isn’t it funny how time flies when you are having fun?

O.K.– Isn’t it funny how time flies when you are busy every waking moment with school work?

Last things to accomplish for the Tech class:

1. Post your reviews of Web 2.0 applications to your blog (see syllabus for details).

2. Complete your project (digital portfolio or Class web site).

3. Write your Technology plan. Details are on the word document that you can download here– edu-613-technology-plan

4. Burn your web quest, project and technology plan (as a word document) to a CD to be turned in Thursday.

5. Present your project to the class Thursday.

6. Attend the BBQ at my house today (Tuesday) Location: 1903 Everett, Time: anytime after 4:00 PM

Thursday be ready to share your “web quest” with the class. If you put it on the public drive in order to show it on the lab computer/projector, remember that the public drive will be “purged” Friday, July 10th. I would like a copy to archive, so save a copy on the lab computer when presenting.

For my research project, I have also decided to use this as an opportunity to digitize my portfolio. I will be using iweb, Final Cut pro, photoshop and other software programs to help illustrate for my future employers that my technological capabilities match, if not surpass, my control over writing and language. I think I will take the theme of my project away from my teaching metaphor, as little lions and elephants (to match my metaphor of a 3-ring circus) may look a little childish.I would like to redirect the theme to something that looks professional/stylish. I also really hope to integrate some of the video projects I have done (both in school and outside of school) in some interesting, visible way. This is the perfect medium to showcase the particular skill set that I have, and I have every intention of taking full advantage of it. Finally, I would like to try and integrate my portfolio into some web 2.0 programs. I’m not sure exactlly which ones as of yet, but I think this would also show my technological proficiencies in some capacity and illustrate how I plan to use technology in my classroom….

For my tech project, I have decided that I would like to put together a working class website as a student and parent resource. I’d like to be able to combine the elements of the tech class and the leadership class in the project in some way. From leadership, I hope to use my own mission and vision to include on the “Meet Ms. Savell” page, so that students and parents know a little bit more about who I am and what I do. And, by virtue of using the new technology in a very concrete and useful way, I’ll be using my tech knowledge to help connect with students and parents. I want it to be a resource that displays three things: what we’re doing in class, what we have done in class and what we’re planning to do. Also, I will post any worksheets and various assignments so that students who are absent and have access can still get what they “need”, rather than having to wait until the next day they come to class. There is also a feature that allows me to post grades. Grades are accessed by use of a student number, so only the student and parents will be able to see their particular grade, which I think is nice. Until I actually pay for the services, I have a limited number of features, so I’m not sure what else I can do. Do you have any suggestions for further pages to include?

For my research project I am looking to digitize my portfolio. I am looking to continue my quilting metaphor throughout my portfolio by using icons and backgrounds that are related to quilting and/or sewing. In the end my quilt or digital portfolio will look complete, yet we all know that teaching is never at an end. I will continue to learn and update my teaching with new strategies and lessons, and I will continue to update my portfolio as I gather more and stronger artifacts as the years progress. A quilt will wear out overtime, but a strong start will make it easier to update and refinish. So if I am able to get a strong start on my digital portfolio this summer, next year I can continue to refinish for a strong product in the end. I am planning on using the software from Richer Picture in order to digitize my portfolio. Richer Picture claims to be very customizable and easy to work. I was having some trouble downloading it onto my home computer in order to look at it more in depth; so the exact software that I use may change. Otherwise I am looking at using Hyperstudio software. I have read really good reviews on the software, and the on-line tutorial does a great job in expanation. However, until I begin I won’t really know how well it will work, so I will keep my options open and will gladly accept advice!
